Hu Wenming, the former chairman of China Shipbuilding Industry Company Limited will be arrested for suspected bribe-taking and abuse of power, the state media Xinhua reports.
The National Supervisory Commission has completed the investigation into Hu's case before handing it over to prosecuting agencies, the Supreme People's Procuratorate said on Thursday in announcing the decision to arrest
Hu has been expelled from the Communist Party of China for violations of party discipline and laws and other malfeasance.
Hu is also the former chief commander of China's aircraft carrier program. On January 4, he was expelled from the Communist Party for severely violating Party discipline and being suspected of taking bribes and misfeasance, the anti-graft agency said, state media reported.
Born in 1957, Hu worked in several major state-owned arms companies, including military aircraft developer and manufacturer Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), armored vehicle and munition developer China North Industries Group Corporation (NORINCO), and China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and eventually CSIC, according to the People's Daily.
As the chief commander of China's aircraft carrier program, Hu oversaw the development of China's first domestically developed aircraft carrier and also the country's second, later known as the Shandong, when it was commissioned into the Chinese Navy in December 2019.
On August 30, 2019, Hu, then aged 62, retired from his position as CSIC's party chief and chairman, the company announced then on its website.
CISC, now merged with CSSC, was responsible for the research, design, production, testing and support missions for naval weaponry and equipment including aircraft carriers, conventional and nuclear powered submarines, surface vessels and underwater weapons, according to publicly available information.
