Program Trend in 2020
During the pandemic, we are able to identify the new major comes out, i.e. business analytics. At the very beginning, it is a fast-track master degree offers by several top universities in the US and the UK. It only takes 9 months to 1.5 year to complete. The raise of this program was due to the fact that most of the companies required talents helping them to analyse the data for a new consumer behavior and turnaround strategy. The most surprised phenomenon happened in the enrolment of the program, i.e. almost 70% of the students were from non-computer science background. And almost all students mentioned they would like to equip analytical skill set for catering their company needs.

It is quite hard for us to survive with the skills in only one specific major. For example, nowadays it is almost a must for students to have a personal project on their CV. Majors and Practices
It is very true that you need to search for your passion and interests to pick the right major in the college. At the same time, you need to be very careful when you try to figure out what you want to pursue in the future as you might mis-interpret your interests. I had a lot of experiences that students told me their passion then I could figure out they had mis-interpret their own passion by mistakes. For example, a student told me that he is interested in Metaverse so he would like to pursue Computer Science major. After the chat, he realised he likes the mathematical concept behind rather than programming and he doesn’t like coding at the first place. Although you need to pick one major, it’s also not hard to see that it requires multiple disciplinary knowledge to solve one issue.
