David Beckham knighted for services to sport and charity

In the latest Birthday Honours list released by the UK government, former England football captain David Beckham has been awarded a knighthood in recognition of his contributions to sports and charitable causes.

The 50-year-old football legend, who earned 115 caps for the England national team and played for top clubs including Manchester United and Real Madrid, shared his feelings about the honor. He mentioned that having grown up in East London with deeply patriotic parents and grandparents, he never imagined that he would one day be knighted.

Also among those receiving knighthoods is acclaimed actor Gary Oldman, who won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 2018 for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in "Darkest Hour."
