The scene took place at the entrance to Baron hotel near the Kabul airport, which has become a focal point for Afghans to seek refuge in the UK, The Independent reports.
“The mothers were desperate, they were getting beaten by the Taliban. They shouted, 'save my baby' and threw the babies at us, some of the babies fell on the barbed wire,” said a Parachute Regiment officer.
“It was awful what happened. By the end of the night there wasn’t one man among us who was not crying,” the officer added.
It was one of the routes into the military side of Kabul airport from where thousands of Afghans are being airlifted to safety by the US, UK and other foreign government.
The route also leads to other foreign facilities which are carrying out evacuations. The numbers of those desperate to get away are swelling by the day with hope among those who qualify for the flights, but despair and anger for those who do not.
