Carrie Lam in old haunt to chase ideasCentral Station | Maisy Mok 3 Aug 2021
Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor went back to her old university yesterday to check around.
But she was not at the University of Hong Kong for some sort of reunion but to talk up the Greater Bay Area grouping and to see how HKU could help it advance as an ideas and technology hub.
She toured HKU's faculty of engineering and visited several laboratories, including a photonic systems research laboratory to be introduced to a system that can detect rare cancer cells among millions of blood cells.
"I have hopes for HKU to continue making breakthroughs and gather famous international academics to develop more Hong Kong talents," Lam said. "Together, we can promote the development of the Greater Bay Area into an international innovation and technology hub."
She praised HKU experts for playing an important role in anti-pandemic work, such as developing a technology that can monitor the virus in sewage water that helped detect 52 Covid-19 cases.
