For those planning to apply this year for the University of Oxford or the University of Cambridge to commence in September 2022, Aston Education is bringing to town Oxbridge Applications – the oldest and one of the global leaders in Oxford and Cambridge admissions consulting. Courses by Oxbridge Applications will start in January 2021.
Why Oxford or Cambridge?
Boasting an unrivalled international reputation, both Oxford and Cambridge exude an intellectual atmosphere with their tutorial system of learning where students can gain access to professors who are leading authorities on specific academic topics. With the universities’ collegiate system, students are also able to conduct interdisciplinary discussions and mix with peers from all over the world with diversified academic backgrounds.
Enhancing your competitive edge
With courses run by Alison Bissell, Head of Oxbridge Applications & Dukes Medical Applications, BA Oxon; Alicia Luba, Consultancy Director , BA Oxon, MA Kings College, London; and Theo Boyce, Deputy Head of Oxbridge Applications, BA Cantab, Oxbridge Applications has 2,500 tutors that are Oxbridge graduates or former Oxbridge admissions mentors, and they provide expert guidance and subject-specific support for students at every stage on applying for Oxford and Cambridge, as well as top-tier UK medical and law schools.
With over 21 years of experience, Oxbridge Applications has supported 70,000 students in over 120 countries and annually worked closely with a global network of over 400 schools, including renowned British colleges, such as Marlborough College and Wellington College, which are specialized in assisting students to enter Oxford and Cambridge.
Bissell points out that their senior leadership team have many years of experience in assisting cohorts of students, 50% of whom were offered places in either Oxford or Cambridge, while others have successful in gaining entry to competitive UK universities in the Russell Group.
“We have a particularly good track record in certain academic fields such as Mathematics and Economics where around 70% of our students have received offers,” says Bissell. “This is quite a significant achievement when you compare it with the average of 15% for the general population of applicants.”
In the course, students will take strategy workshops in 4 days. The workshops cover personal statement writing and skills on picking a suitable university in the UK, and a college that can influence their chances of success in applying for Oxford or Cambridge.
“All of these milestones and consultation that we have with students is all about bringing the elements together, resulting in a coherent application,” explains Bissell. “Students will be taught to make the right tactical choice as it is vital for them to perform highly on each session whilst putting everything together to give an overall impression of academic commitment and curiosity for their subject.”
The courses also cover admission skills and the most important part of the process – interview. Bissell stresses, “We train students with intellectual thinking exercises and communication drills. To make sure that they understand what admission tutors are looking for in the interviews, our tutors ask for feedbacks from time to time.”
“The week is then finished with a one-on-one session with me or one of the senior consultants in our team,” adds Bissell. “We work with students in a very subject-specific way with our own academic specialists who have academic specialism based on what they studied.”
In addition, a final mock interview will be conducted with each student where they will be offered a holistic summary of feedback which governs the rest of the activities for students over the next year. “Therefore, our courses take place early in January, so students will have sufficient time to implement our feedback on their weaknesses.” To keep the courses timely, Oxbridge Applications has been analysing feedbacks from hundreds of applicants each year.
Due to the current global lockdown, courses at Oxbridge Applications have now been conducted online, and they include video interaction between tutors and students, and online educational materials.
“One of the highlights of our virtual learning environment is that students can take mock admission test and receive instant feedbacks from our schools with the new automated system,” adds Bissell.
