The government aims to invite interested ride-hailing platforms to apply for service licenses in the coming weeks, after receiving over 7,500 applications for the Taxi and Ride-hailing Vehicle Combined Written Test since its launch earlier this month.
Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mabel Chan revealed that multiple companies from Hong Kong, the mainland, and Southeast Asia have already contacted the government.
Speaking in a TV interview, Chan said she hopes the platforms will specify how they plan to increase capacity, such as by attracting taxis alongside private cars to diversify their services.
She noted the government is building a regulatory system and will require these platforms to submit operational data.
