Sai Kung District Council member and Professional Power chairperson Christine Fong Kwok-shan finally secures a Legislative Council seat in the New Territories Southeast geographical constituency after five previous attempts.
Fong, known as "Nezha" and a long-time fixture in Tseung Kwan O, dominated the direct election poll, winning by a significant margin with 58,828 votes. The second seat was won by the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong secretary general, Vincent Yip Ngo-tong, who was parachuted into the constituency and secured 26,250 votes, retaining the party's seat.
Coming in third was New People's Party District Council member Chan Chi-ho, who received 18,797 votes.
Fong told Sing Tao earlier she has served New Territories Southeast for 17 years without leaving, saying: “Service is not just about talking, it's about taking action.” When asked about her ability to serve the entire constituency without major party backing, she said Professional Power is a think tank with over 100 members who offer substantial public and professional advice.
Fong revealed during her campaign she received over 15 nominations, including from former Executive Council convenor Bernard Chan Charnwut Chan and former National Committee member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Liza Wang Ming-chun. She attributed this support to her long-standing work record and her “pragmatic, can-do” attitude, which led election committee members to give their support “without hesitation.”
