A government relief fund for victims of the Wang Fuk Court fire has received HK$900 million in public donations, with authorities distributing emergency payments and launching an online platform for material donations.
The government has registered over 1,900 affected households, distributing HK$10,000 emergency grants to 1,420 families. Bereaved families will receive HK$200,000 condolence payments, while all affected households will get HK$50,000 living allowances starting this week.
The Tai Po Wang Fuk Court Assistance Fund now totals HK$1.2 billion including government seed funding. An online donation platform (www.taipodonation.hk) began operations Sunday to coordinate material donations, supported by a physical distribution center at Tai Po Community Centre.
Approximately 683 residents have moved into youth hostels, campsites or hotel rooms arranged by the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau, while 1,144 are staying in transitional housing. All accommodation remains free and pet-friendly.
Social workers have contacted about 1,300 affected households, providing case management for 3,200 residents. Healthcare services include personalized medical care through district health centers and priority access to Hospital Authority clinics.
The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department will assist bereaved families with funeral arrangements, offering complimentary ash interment services alongside HK$50,000 funeral expenses provided through social workers.
