The 2025 IBF World Bowling Championships will roll into Hong Kong next month, bringing together around 300 elite bowlers from at least 31 countries and regions.
The championship, which carries the government’s prestigious “M” mark, will be held at Kai Tak Sports Park and Queen Elizabeth Stadium from November 24 to December 5.
Athletes will compete across men’s and women’s singles, doubles, trios, team, and individual all-events categories.
To enhance the spectator experience, two competition lanes will be installed inside Queen Elizabeth Stadium for the Trios and Team of Five semifinals and finals on December 4 and 5. The venue will seat about 1,500 spectators, with free admission for the public.
Speaking at a press conference, Commissioner for Sports George Tsoi Kin-pan expressed excitement over the upcoming championship and called on the public to support both the event and the National Games, which will open in just 17 days.
“With the sporting excitement growing, I encourage everyone to secure their tickets early and cheer on Team Hong Kong,” Tsoi said.
He also drew a parallel between sportsmanship and civic participation, urging citizens to mark December 7—the date of the Legislative Council General Election—on their calendars.
“Just as you make time for sports, please also reserve time to vote,” he added.
Hong Kong’s men’s team will feature a strong lineup including Wu Siu-hong, Wong Kwan-yuen, Ivan Tse Chun-hin, Keith Mark Siu-ki, James Lui Chin-hung, and Jovi Ma Ka-yin. Three of them were members of the gold medal–winning trios team at the 2023 IBF World Bowling Championships in Kuwait.
Veteran bowler Wu, 41, said he feels the pressure to defend the title but stressed the importance of enjoying the competition and staying injury-free.
Held every two years, the IBF World Bowling Championships is the sport’s premier global event, featuring athletes from five IBF zones: Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania.
