Another long-standing Hong Kong eatery has shut its doors as the city’s restaurant closure wave continues. Treasure City Hot Pot Seafood Restaurant, a well-known establishment under the Fulum Group, has quietly ceased operations after more than two decades in Mong Kok, sparking an outpouring of nostalgia from residents.
On August 4, a netizen posted in the Facebook group that the restaurant, located on Mong Kok’s Playing Field Road, had closed without prior notice.
A sign outside the shop read, "Thank you for your patronage," directing customers to another Fulum Group hot pot restaurant, Winter Steam Pot Restaurant on Tong Mi Road.
The news quickly drew emotional reactions online, with many recalling fond memories of the restaurant.
One user shared, "I used to buy lunch there after playing basketball—it was always packed with long queues for takeaway." Others lamented that the restaurant had survived the pandemic but could not withstand current economic challenges.
"It made it through COVID-19 but couldn’t hold on now," one comment read, while another added, "Another one gone—even the ‘big four’ restaurants can’t survive anymore."
A legacy of affordable seafood hot pot and hand-cut beef
Established in 2005, the hot pot restaurant was known for its retro decor and budget-friendly offerings, specializing in hand-sliced Chaoshan beef and seafood hot pot.
Signature dishes included beef shank, beef brisket fat, and tender beef slices, all served with a rich bone broth that won over many diners.
Its closure leaves only one remaining branch in Wong Tai Sin, marking the end of an era for hot pot lovers in Mong Kok.
