A three-month-old white parrot triggered a rescue operation in Shau Kei Wan on Sunday night after escaping from its owner's residence and perching on a tree outside Oi Yat House in Oi Tung Estate.

The incident occurred around 6pm yesterday (May 4) when the parrot, which had been temporarily released from its cage for play, unexpectedly flew out through an open window. The owner, surnamed Yung, reportedly rushed downstairs after spotting her pet in a nearby tree and contacted emergency services for assistance.

Firefighters responded promptly and utilized an aerial ladder in their attempt to recover the bird. Although the parrot's wings had been clipped to restrict its flight capability, it managed to evade capture by moving between branches as rescuers approached. The operation continued until approximately 7pm when fading light and the bird's disappearance forced its conclusion.

Yung expressed significant concern for her pet's welfare, stating she feared for its safety in the urban environment. She emphasized her parrot, which had a leg ring, remained in good health prior to the incident.

The owner has since circulated photographs of the missing parrot through social media platforms, appealing to local residents for any potential sightings.

Authorities have reportedly suspended active search efforts, though community members in Oi Tung Estate have been alerted to remain observant.

Yung has urged members of the public to provide any information regarding the parrot's location.
