With festive celebrations drawing crowds across the city on the second day of Lunar New Year, authorities are gradually implementing special transport measures to manage expected heavy traffic.
For those heading to the evening fireworks display, the Transport Department reported that the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station public car park was already full, advising citizens to use public transport instead.
Drivers traveling to The Peak were also warned of heavy traffic Peak Road uphill bound and Magazine Gap Road, with authorities urging early planning and extra travel time.
To facilitate police crowd control, the MTR has announced the temporary closure of exits H and R at Tsim Sha Tsui Station, and exits L1, L3, L4, L5, L6, N3, J, and P3 at East Tsim Sha Tsui Station.
Meanwhile, road closures and the corresponding traffic diversions will be implemented in phases in Central District, Wan Chai and Eastern District on Hong Kong Island from about 6pm.
Across the harbor in Kowloon, similar measures will take effect from about 5pm in the vicinity of Tsim Sha Tsui and the West Kowloon Cultural District until the crowd disperses and the roads reopen.
During road closures, bus and GMB routes operating in affected areas will be temporarily diverted or suspended.
Taxi stands, public light bus stands, roadside parking spaces, and private car parks along the impacted roads will also be closed.
Additionally, public transport services, including the MTR and short-haul cross-boundary coach services, will implement temporary arrangements.
As for the annual Hong Kong Well-wishing Festival at Lam Tseun, police announced that special traffic arrangements were in effect due to the heavy traffic in the area.
Drivers heading to Lam Tsuen were instructed to use the nearside lane of Tolo Highway (northbound) and enter via the Lam Kam Road Interchange.
Authorities urged all residents to stay updated on traffic conditions, plan ahead, and prioritize public transport to ensure a smooth and safe holiday experience.
