"Chinese Cultural Celebrity Rescue" learning journey is co-organized by the HKSAR Government and Shenzhen Municipal Government, bringing together more than 100 students from the two cities.
This initiative, co-hosted by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and the Culture, Media, Tourism and Sports Bureau of Shenzhen, involves 50 students from Hong Kong and 50 from Shenzhen.
Participants will visit the Hong Kong Museum of the War of Resistance and Coastal Defence, the Memorial Monument for Sai Kung Martyrs during World War II in Tsam Chuk Wan, before crossing the border to visit the China Culture Celebrity Great Rescue Memorial Hall in Shenzhen to deepen their understanding of wartime history.
The launch ceremony was attended by HKTB Chairman Peter Lam Kin-ngok and Commissioner for Tourism Angelina Cheung Fung Wing-ping.
Lam expressed delight at launching a red tourism route in the Greater Bay Area through collaboration between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, describing the initiative as an innovative breakthrough.
He also expressed hopes that the Hong Kong tourism industry can develop more diverse and higher-quality educational experiences for young people in the Greater Bay Area, further expanding the potential for study tours, including red tourism.
“Learning about this history usually comes from documentaries or classroom lessons. But this time, I can see many historical artifacts firsthand, which allows me to gain a deeper understanding,” a Shenzhen student remarked.
