Vessel capsizes at Sai Kung's Lap Sap Chau

A vessel was overturned by giant waves at Lap Sap Chau in Sai Kung on Sunday morning as Typhoon Wipha struck Hong Kong.

The incident occurred around 11am when firefighters received a report that the vessel, moored offshore, had capsized due to suspected strong winds and high waves.

Preliminary investigations suggest that no individual was aboard the vessel. Authorities are currently contacting the vessel's owner to arrange further retrieval.

Meanwhile, the Hurricane Signal No. 10 remains in force, indicating wind speeds of 118 kilometers per hour or more.

As of 2pm, Typhoon Wipha was centered about 80 kilometers west-southwest of the Hong Kong Observatory.

It is forecast to move westward at approximately 22 kilometers per hour, crossing the Pearl River Estuary and heading toward the coast of western Guangdong, the Observatory added.
