Opportunities abound for Hong Kong’s construction industry. With strong demand for skilled professionals on the rise, now is the perfect time to seize the moment and build a rewarding career. As the training powerhouse for future industry leaders, the Hong Kong Institute of Construction (HKIC) offers a golden opportunity to step into the world of construction expertise.
At a recent media briefing titled "Empower Your Life with Skills" held at HKIC’s Kowloon Bay Campus, Ir Albert Cheng, Executive Director of the Construction Industry Council (CIC) emphasized the critical need to bring in young talent to join the industry, empowering them with the right skills through a wide range of training courses provided by HKIC.
“Closely aligned with industry needs, more and more technologies have been included in HKIC’s curriculum. We stay at the forefront of innovative technologies such as Building Information Modelling (BIM), Modular Integrated Construction (MiC), and Digital Works Supervision System (DWSS). Welding and painting robots are also introduced to equip students with digital skills,” highlighted by Ir Cheng.
He mentioned the opening of the state-of-the-art "Centre for Future Construction" in May this year at the Campus offers students with comprehensive training on the latest industry technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and Digital Twin, showcasing practical applications in real-world scenarios.
It is also announced that a free ride day on KMB Route 16 will be held on tomorrow, the day of the release of the Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE) results, to facilitate candidates to go to HKIC’s Kowloon Bay Campus to enroll in certificate, diploma and higher diploma courses.
Dr. Morgan Yang, Director of the Hong Kong Institute of Construction, also shared the Institute’s latest "Advance and Promotion Ladder", including the path for higher diploma graduates to connect with local and overseas undergraduate courses and complete their degrees in a shorter time.
Dr. Yang emphasized that the HKIC's curriculum design keeps pace with the times and is committed to cultivating construction talents with professional skills and innovative thinking.
During the event, three student and graduate representatives shared their learning and career stories, and how HKIC helped them open up new directions in life.
First-year student Tai Hsin-i is passionate about the construction industry and is currently in a site internship while enthusiastically preparing for the WorldSkills Competition. Meanwhile, Advanced Diploma in Building Services Supervision graduate Law Tsz-ho is currently an Assistant Engineer II (M&E) at Sanfield (Management) Limited while studying part-time for a local bachelor's degree program with the goal of becoming a registered engineer. Finally, Civil Engineering Supervision graduate Wu Chun-yun switched from nursing to construction and is currently working as an engineering supervisor at Gammon Construction while studying for a part-time Bachelor of Civil and Infrastructure program at the RMIT University, a partner institution with HKIC.
The Hong Kong Institute of Construction 2025/26 academic year will start on 1 September and is now accepting on-site application and interviews until 29 August. Eligible applicants will be offered admission on-site. Courses include Advanced Diploma, Diploma in Construction and Certificate in Construction, suitable for Secondary Form 3 students to DSE graduates, job changers and unemployed young people.
