Amidst the celebrations for the 28th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR, government officials have shared their adventures with citywide festivities and special discounts on social media to showcase their support for local businesses.
Following the flag-raising ceremony and a reception on Tuesday (Jul 1) morning, Secretary for Justice Paul Lam Ting-kwok visited the Shek Kip Mei Heritage of Mei Ho House with his wife, where they enjoyed an exhibition and tour of the YHA Mei Ho House Youth Hostel.
The couple then sampled specially crafted dim sum prepared by a master chef who has been in the industry since the 1960s.
Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po engaged in discussions with the citizens during a free tram ride in Wan Chai and spoke with teenagers on the football court.
After dining at a Wan Chai restaurant, Deputy Chief Secretary Warner Cheuk Wing-hing, Deputy Financial Secretary Michael Wong Wai-lun, Deputy Secretary for Justice Horace Cheung Kwok-kwan, and Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Erick Tsang Kwok-wai also took a free tram to Lee Tung Avenue, encouraging citizens to take advantage of the celebratory offers.
Similarly, Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan also joined lawmakers Frankie Yick Chi-ming, Perry Yiu Pak-leung, Chan Siu-hung, along with Hong Kong Tramways Managing Director Paul Tirvaudey on a free tram ride.
The group visited Lee Tung Avenue, taking photos in front of a sea of national and regional flags before enjoying breakfast with special discounts.
Mable Chan introduced Paul to local favorites such as satay beef noodles and iced lemon tea, and purchased wife cakes, Chinese walnut cookies, palmiers, and Chinese almond biscuits to share with her colleagues.
Meanwhile, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law Shuk-pui visited the West Kowloon Cultural District, meeting with citizens who had booked to enjoy free entry to exhibitions at the Hong Kong Palace Museum.
The tourism chief toured an immersive exhibition in collaboration with the Palace Museum in Beijing and later purchased various cultural products from the museum's store.
Development Secretary Bernadette Linn Hon-ho participated in guided tours at Tai Kwun, immersing herself in exhibitions while engaging with citizens and tourists.
Following positive feedback from the public, the development chief emphasized the department's commitment to promoting land development, accelerating the construction of the Northern Metropolis, and advancing administrative reforms to streamline processes and introduce additional measures to ease regulations.
Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau Ying-wah shared a photo at a MTR station, encouraging citizens to spend time with their families amid the vibrant festivities.
In addition to physical stores, multiple officials took advantage of limited-time discounts from online shops, where Secretary for Labor and Welfare Chris Sun Yuk-han, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Christopher Hui Ching-yu, and Secretary for Environment and Ecology Tse Chin-wan all shared their fresh groceries for tonight's celebratory dinner.
