A taxi driver was injured and his vehicle was damaged early Friday morning after being attacked by passengers he mistakenly picked up in Central.

According to police reports, the 55-year-old male driver arrived on Queen's Road Central near D'Aguilar Street around midnight, awaiting a pre-booked fare.

Three men, believed to be aged 20 to 30, approached and entered the driver's Toyota taxi, leading him to believe they were his scheduled passengers.

After departure, the driver realized the passengers' destination did not match his booking details and requested they exit the vehicle.

The trio became angry at the perceived refusal and assaulted the driver while the taxi was moving. One assailant choked the driver from behind, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.

The taxi subsequently crashed into roadside railings. The three attackers fled the scene immediately after the collision.

The driver, surnamed Cheng, sustained head and mouth injuries. He managed to alert police and was transported to Queen Mary Hospital for treatment. Police confirmed he passed a breathalyzer test.
