A labor union representing Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB) and Long Win bus drivers is requesting an annual salary increase of eight percent.

On Tuesday, members from the KMB and Long Win Bus branches of the Motor Transport Workers General Union engaged in discussions regarding their demands with the management of the company.

Lai Siu-chung, the Director of the KMB branch of the Union, articulated that the request for a salary increase is both reasonable and reflective of the needs of the majority of drivers.

He criticized the company for exerting pressure on senior staff to voluntarily resign, which has consequently undermined unity within the company.

Lai also condemned KMB for imposing excessive workloads and stress on frontline staff, attributing this to a lack of proactive recruitment efforts.

The Union has recommended that the company recruit more staff, enhance employee benefits, and extend the retirement age for bus drivers to 65.

While Lai indicated that union representatives are amenable to ongoing dialogue with management, he cautioned that drivers would resort to action should their request remain unaddressed.
