Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi (1810) yesterday said that its first electric car has attracted tens of thousands of visitors across its showrooms since its launch last week.
After the new SU7 was launched last Thursday, the showrooms attracted a large number of test drivers but there were some complaints that the seats of the show cars were dirty.
In response, Xiaomi said it would strive to keep the test EVs clean.
Prices for EV start at 215,900 yuan (HK$233,650) and at least 100,000 cars have been booked so far, according to Xiaomi.
Meanwhile, Tesla announced on Wednesday that buyers of the basic models - Model 3 and Model Y - will be eligible for interest-free loans for up to five years if the order is made no later than April 30 and the delivery is completed before July.
Notably, the offer came just two days after Tesla increased the prices of all Model Y models by 5,000 yuan to a range of 263,900 yuan to 368,900 yuan.
Tesla's U-turn also came after its global deliveries in the first quarter plunged 8.5 percent yearly to 386,810 vehicles, significantly below market estimates.
Meanwhile, Tesla will send a team from the United States to India by late-April to study sites for a proposed US$2 billion (HK$15.6 billion) to US$3 billion electric car plant, the Financial Times reported.
Xiaomi has received 100,000 bookings for the car. Bloomberg
