Chinese authorities have stepped up their scrutiny of e-commerce platform PDD Holdings following an exchanged blows between company staff and regulators last month, Bloomberg News reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
More than 100 investigators from multiple government agencies have been dispatched to PDD's Shanghai headquarters in recent weeks, the people said, according to the report.
The inspection team includes officials from the State Administration for Market Regulation and the State Taxation Administration, and is conducting extensive on-site checks, the report said.
The probe was partly triggered by a physical altercation last month between PDD employees and SAMR inspectors, and covers alleged misconduct ranging from fraudulent deliveries to taxation issues, the sources said.
In the aftermath of the incident, PDD reportedly dismissed dozens of employees in an effort to contain the fallout.
