British-Based Curriculum
At Discovery Bay International School (DBIS), we provide an education based on the English National Curriculum, enhanced by our unique international setting. High expectations and the pursuit of excellence are fundamental to our approach to learning, preparing students for IGCSEs in Years 10/11 and A Levels in Years 12/13. BTEC courses are also available.
World-Class Facilities
Housed in three superbly equipped campuses, DBIS offers students an impressive range of indoor and outdoor learning and play spaces, including an auditorium, gym, 25m heated swimming pool, extensive library, state-of-the art science and learning technologies spaces, a large astroturf pitch and multiple playground areas.
Inquiry-Based Approach
From Early Years through to Primary and into Secondary, we focus on developing independent learners’ curiosity about the world around them and fostering a desire to explore and inquire. Our students benefit from small class sizes, which allow teachers time to understand every child and to develop truly strong home–school links.
Mandarin
Mandarin is taught throughout the school, from Nursery to Year 9, and is an elective subject for Years 10 to 13. Simplified Chinese is taught with different pathways for native and non-native speakers.
Happy, Safe Learning Environment
DBIS promotes a character and culture in which students feel secure and confident, ready to tackle the various challenges that life presents. Wellbeing plays a huge part in a DBIS education and is seen as a vital element in nurturing both academic and personal success.
Vibrant Creative Arts and Sports Scene
DBIS’s creative arts programme offers something for everyone, with extensive opportunities to get involved in drama, music and visual arts. Our thriving peripatetic programme is complemented by our vast range of extracurricular activities, with over 100 options to choose from.
DBIS also has a long-standing reputation for sporting achievement, with our teams competing at the highest level. We are members of both the International Schools Sports Federation of Hong Kong (ISSFHK) and the Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA).
Thriving Community
A strong community spirit pervades at DBIS, the school having been at the heart of the Discovery Bay community for the last 40 years. As well as hosting numerous popular events, DBIS places strong emphasis on service, and students regularly plan philanthropic initiatives to support both local and international causes.
