The Chinese Embassy in Japan warned its citizens following a surge of targeted assaults in the country, as some individuals deliberately elbow or ram into victims in crowded places, resulting in injuries before quickly escaping into the crowd.
According to the embassy, there has been a notable rise in the so-called "bumpers" that target foreign tourists and vulnerable groups such as women, children, and the elderly.
Citizens are urged to remain vigilant in crowded areas, keep a safe distance from others, and avoid using smartphones while walking. Should they become victims of such incidents, the embassy advises remaining calm and reporting the matter to the nearest police station immediately.
The warning follows widespread outrage sparked by a video circulating online, which shows a masked woman knocking down a young girl at a busy Tokyo crossing.
