Chinese electronics giant Xiaomi has announced a voluntary recall of more than 140,000 power banks due to a potential overheating and fire hazard linked to a supplier's faulty battery cells.
The recall affects models with the number PB2030MI that were manufactured between August 1 and September 22, 2024.
Xiaomi stated that a small number of these power banks, which use problematic battery cells from a supplier, could overheat during use and pose a fire risk in extreme cases.
The product has been removed from Xiaomi's official mainland China website.
However, an investigation by local media found that the same model was still available for purchase on the company's Hong Kong website for HK$152 at the time of the announcement.
According to a notice posted by the Beijing Municipal Administration for Market Regulation, Xiaomi will provide free refunds to consumers.
Customers are advised to check the recall notice on Xiaomi's official website to see if their product is affected or to call a customer service hotline for further details.
The company has stated that eligible consumers will receive a refund of 159 yuan.
