Hong Kong serves as an ideal hub for innovation and technology enterprises due to its unique advantages under the “one country, two systems” framework, Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po stated during the opening ceremony of InnoEx on Sunday.
Chan emphasized Hong Kong's competitive strengths, including its reliable common law system, strong intellectual property protections, seamless connectivity between mainland Chinese and international markets, and access to global talent.
"As global dynamics shift -- from trade conflicts to technological divisions -- businesses need to explore new opportunities in emerging markets," Chan said.
He reaffirmed Hong Kong's commitment to preserving its free-port status while facilitating the unrestricted movement of capital, goods, information and skilled workers.
The four-day exhibition, held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from Sunday to Wednesday, showcases around 500 exhibitors from 17 countries including Australia, the United Arab Emirates and Luxembourg.
Featured technologies range from drone systems and electric aircraft to deepfake identification solutions.
Speaking at the same event, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Sun Dong noted this third edition of InnoEx concentrates on five priority areas: artificial intelligence, low-altitude economy applications, smart transportation systems and other cutting-edge fields.
"This event strengthens partnerships between domestic and international enterprises, solidifying Hong Kong's position as a worldwide innovation center even amid challenging trade conditions," Sun said.
In a blog post, Chan described Hong Kong as maintaining remarkable stability and appeal despite worldwide economic volatility.
He outlined several support measures for small and medium-sized businesses, including a HK$390 billion dedicated loan pool and export assistance measures expected to aid about 2,700 companies.
Chan also said the government is accelerating efforts to attract overseas capital, talent, and firms to bolster growth.
