Sweden, which has shunned lockdowns throughout the pandemic, registered 4,831 new coronavirus disease patients on Friday, health agency statistics showed, Reuters repports.

The country of 10 million inhabitants registered 26 more deaths, taking the total to 13,003. The deaths registered have occurred over several days and sometimes weeks.
Sweden's death rate per capita is many times higher than that of its Nordic neighbours' but lower than in several European countries that opted for lockdowns.

According to Sweden's Public Health Agency, as of March 4, 568,031 people had received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine. In that total, 285,178 had received both doses, according to reports from regions.
