Hong Kong hair care brand Lao Yao Jiang (also known as LaoYaoGinger shampoo) recently received a rare “dual recognition” after being officially invited by Tmall Global to launch on its platform and selected for on-site display at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai. Such dual invitations, industry insiders note, are uncommon and signal the brand’s rising prominence within the Asian beauty and personal care market.
Pomelo Leaf, a name first created in HK over 20 years ago for the brand’s body wash, is now widely known in China and abroad.
Heritage Roots, Cultural Strength
The brand’s cultural appeal and scientific credibility trace back to the famed “World’s Longest Hair Village” in China’s Yao ethnic region. For generations, residents of the Yao long-hair village have used fermented rice water mixed with herbal ingredients to wash their hair. Women in the village are widely known for hair that often grows down to their knees, with remarkably few cases of premature graying. This tradition earned the community a Guinness World Record for “Longest Hair Village”, bringing global attention to what many describe as a natural, internationally recognized hair care alternative.
Verified Authenticity through Tmall
In recent years, rising demand has led many mainland consumers to travel to Hong Kong specifically to purchase Lao Yao Jiang products, largely due to widespread counterfeits on online marketplaces. Tmall Global—known for its stringent product vetting and traceability requirements—extended a formal invitation to Lao Yao Jiang to open a flagship store, signaling its recognition of the brand’s authentic sourcing, manufacturing standards, and research background. The move ensures that consumers can now purchase verified genuine products through a trusted cross-border platform.
Showcasing Traditional Chinese Hair care
Equally significant is the brand’s appearance at CIIE, one of the world’s most influential international trade exhibitions. Entry into CIIE’s curated display zones is traditionally reserved for top-tier and innovative brands. Lao Yao Jiang’s inclusion highlights not only its commercial success but its cultural role in representing traditional Chinese hair care wisdom on a global stage.

The dual acknowledgements from both Tmall Global and the China International Import Expo mark a meaningful milestone for Lao Yao Jiang and, more broadly, for Hong Kong’s hair care sector as local products gain increasing recognition in international markets.
