Singing swimmer Alex Fong Lik-sun has just earned himself more applause after he led old boys, teachers and students to set a record time swimming around Hong Kong Island.

Fong led a delegation of swimmers, including St Joseph's College teachers and alumni, on the 45-kilometer, around-the-island swim to raise more than HK$15 million in funds for school redevelopment.

Other elite athletes in the team included Chan Pak-hin and Chan Yin-ban. They finished the circuit in eight hours, 30 minutes and 40.75 seconds.

Fong thanked the preparatory committee for organizing the swimathon, and said that it not only needed record-breaking swimmers, but also a worthy team of old boys, students and teachers to raise funds for the college.

Part of the funds will be donated to the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club Charity Foundation, sponsoring children from low-income families, and children with special needs to learn swimming and other water sports.
