Singapore has begun construction on a US$8 billion (HK$62.4 billion) Marina Bay Sands expansion, set to reshape the city’s skyline by 2030.
The 55-storey tower will include 570 luxury suites, a casino, a 15,000-seat arena, and over 200,000 square feet of MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) space.
Opening is slated for early 2031.
At the July 15 groundbreaking, Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said the project is part of a broader revamp of Singapore’s southern waterfront—a 30km stretch six times the size of Marina Bay that will integrate commercial, residential and recreational areas.
The first batch of public housing in the area, about 1,000 units on the former Keppel Club site, will launch in October.
Designed again by architect Moshe Safdie, the expansion—dubbed Integrated Resort 2 (IR2)—aims to cement Singapore’s position in the global luxury and events market. A signature feature, “Skyloop,” will sit 245 metres above ground, offering sweeping views of the skyline and Malacca Strait.
The three-level rooftop space will include an infinity pool and dining venues, nearly five times the size of the existing SkyPark.
