Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) and the Ministry of Communications of Malaysia signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Thursday in Kuala Lumpur, aiming to strengthen media cooperation and promote cultural exchanges.
The agreement covers joint content productions highlighting the culture and tourism of both Hong Kong and Malaysia, with the hope of boosting visitor flows between the two regions.
The signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) and was officiated by Director of Broadcasting Angelina Kwan Yuen-yee and RTM Director-General Ashwad Ismail.
The two sides discussed future collaboration in programme exchanges, co-productions and talent development. Such initiatives are expected to strengthen people-to-people bonds under the Belt and Road Initiative and enhance Hong Kong’s connectivity with the ASEAN region.
Kwan stated that RTHK fully supports the government’s efforts to strengthen ties with ASEAN and is actively expanding partnerships with media organizations across the region.
RTHK has previously signed MOUs with broadcasters in Indonesia and Malaysia. She noted that these agreements help expand RTHK’s international reach, raise the profile of Hong Kong media, and strengthen the city’s cultural influence in the Belt and Road region, Southeast Asia and beyond.
She added that RTHK is exploring deeper cooperation with more ASEAN media outlets. It will continue to leverage Hong Kong’s role as a strategic gateway to share stories of the nation and Hong Kong, and promote Chinese culture internationally.
