A 13-year-old girl is the youngest of four suspects now in custody after police cracked a vicious assault on a 17-year-old in a Mong Kok shopping mall disabled toilet last month, an attack captured on video and later circulated online that finally prompted the victim to come forward.
The incident unfolded on October 17 inside the restroom of a commercial building, where the teenager was slapped, punched, and kicked by a group of assailants before one filmed the ordeal.
The footage only surfaced weeks later, pushing the shaken victim—accompanied by her mother—to report the crime at Mong Kok Police Station on November 7.
Detectives from the district’s major crime unit moved swiftly, identifying and arresting three girls aged 13 to 16 on November 8.
All described as students or unemployed, the trio knew the victim through months of hanging out together at the same mall.
A trivial dispute over money and relationships reportedly escalated into violence.
Today, officers detained a fourth suspect, another 16-year-old girl, on the same charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The three initial arrestees face a joint count and are scheduled to appear at West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts tomorrow morning.
Police continue hunting any remaining participants while all four girls remain in custody for questioning.
