Hong Kong residents have praised the new facial recognition clearance system, which was introduced at multiple mainland border control points and began operation on Wednesday.
The measure was launched by China's National Immigration Administration, which announced the expansion of smart clearance services to several ports, including Huanggang, Luohu, Liantang, Futian, Wenjindu, Hengqin, and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Port in Zhuhai.
A frequent traveler surnamed Wong, who crosses northbound for leisure activities weekly, said that the process is smooth and efficient.

"The border crossing no longer requires physical documents," she said, adding that she believes clearance times will further decrease as passengers grow accustomed to the facial recognition technology.
Meanwhile, another citizen surnamed Ho noted that the system will reduce waiting times, particularly benefiting those who frequently travel across the border.
A Shenzhen resident also applauded the technology, stating it suits the lifestyle of younger generations and prevents situations where identification cards are lost.
