Police arrested a male suspect in connection with a stabbing at Hoi Sham Park that left two men in critical condition on Saturday afternoon (Oct 4).
The incident occurred when the victims—a 37-year-old surnamed Fok and a 20-year-old surnamed Yan—were chatting in a park pavilion with snacks and drinks yesterday noon(Oct 4).
Superintendent Gar Kam-lam of the Kowloon West regional crime headquarters revealed at a press conference on Sunday (Oct 5) that the victims are friends but did not know the attacker.
"The suspect had been watching videos on his phone for about 30 minutes, occasionally glancing at the victims but showing no obvious signs of disturbance before he suddenly attacked," Gar noted.
The suspect used a small fruit knife to inflict multiple stab wounds on the victims before fleeing along Chi Kiang Street toward Whampoa.
It is reported that the suspect has discarded the weapon into the sea during the escape. Authorities are searching the waters adjacent to the Park for the weapon.
Fok sustained three stab wounds to his neck and shoulders, and Yan suffered 10 stab wounds to his neck, chest, back, and arms. The two victims remain hospitalized in critical condition.
The arrested suspect, surnamed Hon, is described as a homeless man who frequently visited parks in Hung Hom and Sham Shui Po.
Although there is no known history of mental illness in police records, witnesses have reported that he exhibited signs of mental distress.
The suspect was arrested in Hung Hom and is currently in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
