In celebration of the National Games, Henderson Land Development (0012) has launched the Henderson Sports campus programme, bringing sports courses to 30 schools across Hong Kong as part of its ongoing commitment to local sports development.
The Group is committed to local sports development and has established the HKU Lee Shau Kee Top Athletes Scholarship.
In celebration of the upcoming 15th National Games of the People’s Republic of China, the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities, and the 9th National Special Olympics Games—taking place in Hong Kong this November—the Group has partnered with GDCD Association, a youth sports charity, to launch the Henderson Sports campus programme.
This initiative will provide sports courses in 30 primary and secondary schools across Hong Kong, aiming to inspire students’ passion for sports and nurture young athletic talent.
Following last year’s successful summer sports programmes, the Henderson Sports Campus Programme will engage approximately 600 students from September to November.
Each participating school will receive four professionally coached sessions covering official National Games sports like Rugby Sevens, Fencing, Beach Volleyball, and Handball, as well as emerging sports such as Pickleball, Lacrosse, and Floor Curling.
The programme kicked off today with two-time Asian Games gold medalist, Salom Yiu Kam-shing as the coach, who taught around 120 students the fundamentals of rugby sevens and shared insights from his sports career, encouraging them to face challenges with perseverance.
Additionally, Henderson Land will extend the excitement of the National Games to the wider community through sports-themed exhibitions and live broadcasts of the competitions in the Group’s shopping malls, inviting everyone to celebrate Hong Kong’s major sporting events together.
Salom Yiu Kam-shing, a two-time Asian Games gold medalist in rugby sevens and now a coach, said that in rugby sevens, there are fewer Chinese faces due to limited training facilities in Hong Kong. That’s why I engage in school programs like Henderson Sports to discover talent and provide professional training, ensuring Hong Kong retains its sporting talent.
