Fresh from his historic double victory at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, Hong Kong-born virtuoso Aristo Sham Ching-tao treated local fans to a live performance of his award-winning pieces at a special homecoming event.
Sham made waves on the international stage with his exceptional talent, emerging victorious from a pool of 340 competitors to become the first Hong Kong musician to win both the gold medal and the audience award at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
To celebrate his achievement, a local radio program hosted a special event where the pianist shared his extraordinary musical journey with fans and performed the very pieces that earned him acclaim at the competition. The event drew around a hundred enthusiastic music lovers.
Sham began learning the piano at the age of three and passed the Grade 8 examination by six, also starting to compose around that time.
At the program, Sham was presented with flowers in congratulations by Director of Broadcasting Angelina Kwan Yuen-yee and was praised for outstanding accomplishments on the global stage, stating that his victory not only highlights his remarkable musical talent but also underscores Hong Kong’s strength in the field.
Kwan expressed confidence that his success would inspire more young Hong Kong artists to pursue international recognition.
The broadcasting chief also emphasized Hong Kong’s role as a multicultural hub, noting that its cultural influence provides young talents with vast opportunities to develop and showcase their abilities worldwide.
