Hong Kong and Cambodia are studying the introduction of more flights and air routes to enhance connectivity and boost tourism, Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu said as he signed 13 agreements with Cambodia.

Lee arrived in Phnom Penh on Tuesday, the second stop of his six-day trip to three Association of Southeast Asian Nations countries, and left for Hanoi, Vietnam, yesterday afternoon.

Lee met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Deputy Prime Minister Sar Sokha at the Peace Palace yesterday.

He said that Hong Kong and Cambodia, which "stands out with a rapidly developing market and remarkable economic potential," have great potential for collaboration in the areas of government, business and civil society.

Thirteen memoranda of understanding were signed with Cambodia, covering various areas such as trade and economic partnership, investment promotion, capacity-building, information and technology, financial education and services, and aviation.

"Currently there are flights connecting the two places, but both sides believe they can further strengthen these ties," Lee said.

"We can promote the tourism sector, as Cambodia has ample tourism resources and Hong Kong's tourism sites are also attractive, allowing for mutual promotion of tourism."

Lee also started discussions measures to facilitate inbound travelers, including visa arrangements.

With the completion of the third runway at the Hong Kong International Airport this year, the SAR's aviation capacity will further improve.

Lee also said that Cambodia supports Hong Kong's bid to join the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, a free trade agreement among Asia-Pacific countries.

He added that "as an international shipping center with advantages in capital, technology, and market resources, Hong Kong could cooperate with Cambodia in financing, operation, and management of infrastructure construction, promoting the diversified development of Cambodia's economy."

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council will also set up a consultancy office in Phnom Penh to strengthen cooperation in commercial and professional services, Lee said.
