The curtain will officially rise on the East Kowloon Cultural Centre this November, heralding a new chapter for the city's arts scene.
To celebrate its grand opening, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department has unveiled a vibrant lineup of Kowloon East Opening Programmes, inviting the public from mid-November through February to experience the magic where art and technology meet.
The festivities will begin on a poignant and innovative note with the debut musical, HighLights—The Memories of Charles Kao.
Staged within the new centre, the production will bring to life the story of the late Nobel laureate and "father of fibre optics," Charles Kao, weaving together his scientific legacy with his tenure as the former President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Audiences can catch this unique performance between November 15 and 30.
The celebration extends far beyond the opening act. The inaugural season will be a rich tapestry of creativity, featuring 17 diverse programs and more than 80 performances and activities.
The lineup promises something for everyone, from major stage productions and free community events to captivating art installations.
Highlights include exhibits for the 2025 Hong Kong Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture, the immersive multimedia art piece “Bioluminescence”, and the enchanting dance performance “Lucie in the Sky”.
These events will showcase the work of top-tier artists from both local and international troupes, all exploring the dynamic intersection of art and technology.
For those eager to secure their seats, tickets will go on sale starting October 3. Art lovers can enjoy a special welcome gift: a limited-time flash sale from October 2 to 16, which offers an extra 10 percent discount.
The LCSD said the new center is more than just a venue; it's a catalyst for creativity.
By integrating advanced technology directly into its performance facilities, the East Kowloon Cultural Centre aims to provide fresh opportunities for the cultural industry, foster diverse and high-quality artistic creations, and firmly establish Hong Kong as a leading hub for international cultural exchange.
Apart from joining arts and cultural events in Hong Kong, visitors can also participate those in Macao. Among them is the must-see Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2025. Themed “Hey, what brings you here?”, this three-month art event features 30 exhibitions across the city, showcasing modern masterpieces by artists from more than 10 countries and regions. Artists, including contemporary masters Xu Bing, Ann Hamilton and Gregor Schneider, craft innovative narratives, revitalize historical spaces and explore the community in six exciting sections.
