Cyberport-backed tech companies show how technology is reshaping business in HOY TV’s captivating program “AI for Humans”.
In an age where data is the new oil, Hong Kong is rapidly emerging as a powerhouse of digital innovation. This week’s episode of “AI for Humans” on HOY TV, titled “AI and Big Data: Driving Opportunities Through Data?”, takes viewers on a fascinating journey through the frontlines of this transformation. It highlights how Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data are no longer just futuristic concepts—they are here, now, and already revolutionising how businesses think, operate, and grow.
The episode, supported by Cyberport, Hong Kong's digital tech hub and AI accerelator, showcases a range of local enterprises that are not only embracing digital transformation but actively redefining their industries with the help of cutting-edge cutting-edge AI technologies with data analytics.
One standout story comes from PressLogic, a content-driven technology company founded by Ryan Cheung. Since launching in 2016, PressLogic has developed MediaLens, a powerful AI and Big Data analytics platform that transforms social media insights into highly engaging and viral content. Cheung explained how the platform enables brands to execute hyper-targeted marketing campaigns across platforms, dramatically boosting their return on investment (ROI) while streamlining cross-platform marketing efforts.

He revealed that the adoption of AI had tripled the efficiency of his tech team in just six months, allowing for rapid innovation and a deeper understanding of market trends. He also revealed effective social media marketing strategies, including crafting content that deeply resonates with audiences and leveraging real-time data for competitive analysis—approaches that open up fresh opportunities for brands to generate value.
The episode also delves into how AI is breaking down traditional barriers in B2B commerce. Founders of Cyberport-incubated startup Pubrio, King Lai and Jacqueline Leung, demonstrated how their AI-powered sales platform helps companies identify and connect with potential clients around the world. In one compelling example, a Chinese LED lighting company used Pubrio’s system to target businesses in Dubai. By analysing keywords and web content, they generated an accurate list of potential clients, doubling their conversion rate.

The result was more than just efficiency—it was a new way of doing business, driven by precision and speed.
The food and beverage industry is also reaping the rewards of AI, as shown by OpenRice, a household name in Hong Kong’s dining scene. CEO Joe Yau discussed how the platform leverages AI to personalise restaurant recommendations, screen user-generated videos, and enhance fraud detection. A notable case study featured Toyouke Izakaya, a restaurant that improved engagement by tracking user behaviour through OpenRice’s integrated reservation and payment systems and payment systems under Digital Transformation Support Pilot Programme (DTSPP). By using data to tailor promotions, the restaurant saw a tangible boost in performance.

Another digital success story featured Bistrochat, whose AI-driven booking platform consolidates reservations from multiple channels. Co-founder Hacene Taibi shared how restaurants like Maison ES used Bistrochat under DTSPP, to reduce overbooking, better manage customer relationships, and elevate the dining experience—all through smart integration of data and marketing tools.

Rounding out the episode, Cyberport’s Head of Entrepreneurship, Alice So, highlighted the importance of the Digital Transformation Support Pilot Programme (DTSPP). Through funding, technical support, and networking events, the program helps SMEs unlock the true potential of AI. She encouraged businesses to act now, pointing out that smart use of data can reduce costs, forecast trends, and give local companies a vital edge in the global market. “The potential of AI application in SMEs is immense, particularly in user data analysis and sales trend forecasting, which can significantly reduce costs and improve efficiency,” she said.

For viewers eager to see the future unfold, this episode offers more than just information—it delivers inspiration.
