The Chinese Consulate-General in Osaka on Thursday again warned against travelling to Japan, after a Chinese citizen was reportedly robbed of five million yen (approximately HK$250,000).
The incident took place around 5pm on Wednesday (Feb 25), when a 36-year-old man was attacked by several men on a street in Sumiyoshi-ku, Osaka.
According to local media, the victim was struck in the face with a suspected stun gun before the attackers fled with a backpack containing the cash.
Reports indicated the suspects were dressed in dark clothing, wearing hats and masks during the incident.
Police discovered a suspected stun gun at the scene and have initiated an investigation into the incident.
The Chinese Consulate-General has formally lodged representations with local authorities, urging a prompt investigation and demanding enhanced protection for Chinese citizens in Japan.
In its notice, the Consulate-General highlighted a recent surge in similar incidents, emphasizing concerns over deteriorating public security.
It advised those in Japan to stay vigilant, avoid carrying large amounts of cash, and contact police or the consulate immediately in an emergency.
