The Leisure and Cultural Services Department launched a channel on Thursday to collect the public's view on the books provided in the Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) so that the public can report items in the collection that they deem unfit for the library.
The LSCD stated today that if the public perceives that any parts of the collections are suspected of being contrary to the law or contain objectionable content, they can express their views via a designated form available at any HKPL branch libraries or email their views to bookreport@lcsd.gov.hk.
The LCSD pointed out that by doing so, they can ensure that the contents of the collection won't promote violence, pornography, or vulgarism, violate Hong Kong law, or threaten national security.
The members of the public first have to fill in the information on the library material in question, including the title, relevant part, page number, and text paragraph.
The LSCD will then contact the relevant library to remove the material for review, but no replies will be given for each opinion received.
The government spokesman ensures that the collected data will be dealt with strictly per the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance and will not be disclosed to any third parties.
