Pro-business Liberal Party lawmakers slammed authorities for neglecting the livelihood of citizens while fighting the epidemic, solely relying on health experts’ suggestions.

The party leader, Felix Chung Kwok-pan, said some of the health experts have not taken into account the livelihood of members of the public because they are not in their shoes.

“Some of them are earning several hundreds of thousands a month, they have no problem taking care of themselves and family, they have sometimes suggested the government with ‘irresponsible’ measures in fighting the epidemic,” said Chung.

Liberal Party chairman Tommy Cheung Yu-yan also urge the government to ease the social distancing measures as soon as possible, to strike a balance between fighting the epidemic and reviving the businesses in the city.

Lawmaker Peter Shiu Ka-fai also voiced concern over the long business suspension for beauty parlors and massage establishments.

“They should be allowed to reopen under certain conditions, if not, even if they are provided with more subsidies, they will be forced to shut down for good,” stressed Shiu.
