A kick-off ceremony for the 110th anniversary celebrations for the Scout Association of Hong Kong was held today.

The Scout Association of Hong Kong with a mission of “Do a good turn every day” was established in Hong Kong 110 years ago, committed to the development of Hong Kong’s young people.

Prominent community members and celebrities including Vice Patron of the Association, Non-Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal, Hon Justice Patrick Chan Siu-oi were invited to share their experience and views on the theme of “Scouting”.

Sir Gordon Wu, Karson Choi, Lam Chiu-ying, Chiu Tsang-hei, and David T. C. Lie also attended the ceremony.

“Serving the community is very meaningful,” said Karson Choi, who has participated in community service for the past 13 years.

Karson said he embraces the value of “giving back to the community”. His inspiration comes from the scout’s promise of “Do a good turn every day” which he adopted from an early age and which became one of the driving forces behind his participation in social service and charity work.

“The greatest benefit for young people today in participating in the Scouting Movement was the cultivation of motivation and development of self-learning and self-reliance. In addition, it also provides them with challenging and progressive training for their physical, intellectual, social, spiritual, and aesthetic development,” he added.
