Skyworth founder laments US tariffs, turns toward Chinese smart industry

Skyworth (0751) founder Stephen Wong Wang-sang said the home appliance maker’s global expansion has faced major headwinds from US reciprocal tariffs, while revealing plans to capitalize on China’s push toward smart tech.

Wong said Skyworth received more than 2 million home appliance orders from the United States each year and stressed the challenges imposed by US President Donald Trump’s levies, noting he was so worried that he “could barely sleep.”

He noted that the company will tap into opportunities arising from China’s industrial transformation, with areas that include green energy, new-energy vehicles and healthcare.
