A 33-year-old motorcyclist died after he collided with a BMW and was thrown off his motorcycle, resulting in him crashing into a taxi.

The 42-year-old driver of the BMW car was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and has been detained for questioning as of yesterday.

The motorcyclist, Wong, died at Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin after noon yesterday after sustaining critical head injuries.

The accident happened shortly before 11.30am, when Wong was heading toward Sha Tin town hall on Yuen Wo Road on his Yamaha YZF-R3.

On reaching the junction of Yuen Wo and Sha Tin Rural Committee roads, a BMW i3 crashed into his motorcycle after allegedly jumping a red light.

The BMW then rammed into side railings before overturning. Its driver had to get out of the car with the assistance of passersby.

The crash saw Wong being thrown off, before careering several meters and crashing into the taxi in front.

As seen in dash-cam footage, both the motorcycle and the taxi were stopped at the traffic lights at the junction. As the motorcycle moved upon the light turning green, the BMW dashed into the intersection and rammed into the left side of the motorcycle.

Both the motorcyclist and the BMW driver were taken to hospital.

Chik, the 64-year-old driver of the taxi, was taking two passengers to Sha Tin Government Offices from Wo Che Plaza.

But as his taxi turned into Sha Tin Rural Committee Road, he heard a loud bang and felt something hitting his taxi.

"I then saw the BMW rammed against the railings and overturned," he said.

"I initially thought the BMW hit my taxi, but it was the motorcyclist [Wong]He was bleeding heavily, and could not even move."

Wong was said to have been on his way to shop for his family on his day off when the accident happened.

The breadwinner of his family, Wong had two daughters, aged seven and nine, and and his wife worked in the telecommunications industry.
