No ducking for hungry jailer

Central Station | 28 May 2020

A prison warder got more than he had bargained for after asking an inmate's mother for a leg of roast goose.

Wan Chi-leung, 55, a Correctional Services Department assistant officer, instead received a whole roast duck.

And yesterday he was convicted in Kwun Tong Magistrates' Court of soliciting and accepting an advantage under the bribery ordinance.

He was released on bail until June 11 for sentencing.

Magistrate Joseph To Ho-shing criticized Wan for not following guidelines despite his years of experience as a prison officer when he allowed a relative of a prisoner to carry a roast duck into Pik Uk Prison.
