Tencent (0700) jumped more than 4 percent on fresh reports that it is launching a ChatGPT-like bot, driving the Hang Seng Index up more than 200 points yesterday.

LingNan Eco & Culture, which is collaborating with Tencent to advance cultural travel in the metaverse, said the social media and gaming giant is preparing to launch an application similar to the ChatGPT artificial intelligence chatbot which will become a classic app.

This follows last month's report that Tencent had set up a development team to work on a chatbot called Hunyuan Aide.

Tencent rose by 4.24 percent to HK$378.2, making it the best-performing blue-chip. Lingnan's A-shares also experienced a boost, rising by over 10 percent.

In addition to Tencent, other new economy stocks performed well with Kingsoft Corporation (3888) rising 2.78 percent to HK$38.8, Meituan (3690) advancing 2.44 percent to HK$134.6 and NetEase (9999) edging up by 1.75 percent to HK$139.8.

Fifty-six of the 76 blue chips saw their prices increase.

HSBC (0005) rose by 1.94 percent to HK$52.65 and AIA (1299) rose by 1.61 percent to HK$81.85.

Chow Tai Fook (1929) which rose 2.4 percent, has seen its stock price increase by 11.4 percent over the last six trading days.

However, some stocks faced significant losses due to their poor financial performance last year.

Regal REIT (1881) once tumbled 20 percent on the news that its distributable income fell 34.1 percent year-on-year to HK$205 million last year and that the final distribution per unit was only 1 HK cent, representing a 75.6 percent year-on-year decrease.

Its shares ended 10.7 percent lower at HK$1.17.

NetDragon Websoft (0777) slumped after it revealed its net profit tumbled over 20 percent last year, and declared a final dividend per share of 40 HK cents.

Its shares fell by 14.5 percent and closed at HK$14.62.

And Best Mart 360 (2360) plunged over 13.6 percent to HK$2.15 as two executive directors sold a 49 percent stake in the company to China Merchants Hoi Tung Trading at a discounted price of HK$1.76 per share.
