Three Customs officers were injured in a knife attack on Thursday afternoon (Nov 6) during an anti-narcotics operation in To Kwa Wan, with the suspect still on the run.
Police received a report around 5pm that three men had been attacked by a knife-wielding suspect inside a unit at the Honour Building on To Kwa Wan Road. The victims sustained injuries to their hands and legs and were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
Sources said seven officers were conducting a raid at the unit when they stopped a suspicious man, aged about 30 to 40. The suspect allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and attacked the officers before locking himself inside the flat. Members of the Counter Terrorism Response Unit and the Emergency Unit forced their way in, but the suspect had already escaped through a window into a light well.
A large-scale search was launched, involving police dogs and multiple units. Officers later found a bloodstained kitchen knife in a stairwell, believed to be the weapon used in the attack. A vehicle suspected to belong to the fugitive was also located nearby, with his keys and wallet reportedly left behind.
Customs and police later searched a nearby mini-storage facility and seized a quantity of suspected drugs. The suspect remains at large.
Commissioner of Customs and Excise Chan Tsz-tat visited the injured officers at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in the evening. He said the three officers — an inspector, a senior customs officer, and a customs officer — sustained injuries mainly to their arms and legs. Two remain in hospital in stable condition, while the inspector, who suffered minor injuries, has been discharged.
The investigation is ongoing.
