A Sichuan golden snub-nosed monkey infant was born in Ocean Park last week to mother Le Le and father Qi Qi, marking a significant achievement for the Park’s Conservation Programme for First-Class Protected Species (Category I).
The infant, born in the Park at 9.51 pm on January 16, was the fourth offspring born to Le Le and Qi Qi, adding a new member to the national treasure baby animal ambassadors along with the twin panda cubs.
Both Le Le and her infant are reported to be in good health, though the gender and weight of the newborn are yet to be determined.
To facilitate nursing and provide necessary postnatal care, the golden monkey habitat is temporarily closed, and the animal caretaker team is closely monitoring the mother and infant.
Additionally, crowd control measures will be implemented at the Hong Kong Jockey Club Sichuan Treasures.
“The successful breeding of another baby at Ocean Park underscores the success of our team’s long-standing effort to conserve and breed animal species with high conservation and educational values,” said Paulo Pong Kin-yee, Chairman of Ocean Park Corporation.
