This came after he received a progress update on the sports park last week and visited the park with a delegation last Tuesday (Aug 27) to review the progress and gather input on nearby facilities and strategies to promote sports. This visit also aims to enhance the drafting of the Policy Address.
Lee emphasized that the park is crucial for the development of sports mentioned in the previous Policy Address in Hong Kong by fostering community sports, supporting elite athletes, positioning Hong Kong as a hub for major international sports events, increasing professionalism, and developing sports as an industry.
The Chief Executive noted that the majority of the park's construction is complete, with interior decoration and landscaping currently underway.
During his inspection, Lee urged the task forces to ensure timely completion of the park and emphasized the importance of attention to detail and adaptability to guarantee smooth operations post-opening.
He also mentioned that upon completion, the Sports Park will become a new landmark for large-scale sports and leisure entertainment. Numerous local and international event promoters have expressed interest in renting the world-class facilities within the park, and a variety of entertainment activities are planned.
To highlight the significance of Kai Tak Sports Park, a large-scale opening ceremony is scheduled for the first quarter of next year, featuring a series of performances by sports stars and artists.
Lee expressed his hope that the park will not only boost the sports sector but also stimulate the growth of the performance arts, tourism, and other industries, thereby generating substantial economic benefits.
