The launch, in collaboration with the World Alliance of International Financial Centers, aims to leverage Hong Kong’s trade financing, portfolio diversification, and capital market access, supported by the wealth funds, human resources, and major corporations in the leading African financial hubs in Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, and Rwanda.
The project representatives said Hong Kong's well-established capital market and robust legal and regulatory framework benefit Africa in cross-border investment, such as setting up family offices across Asia, while they offer high market returns, free trade agreements, tax incentives, and access to their talent pool.
Dr King Au, Executive Director of the Financial Services Development Council, said Hong Kong will be the gateway for the partnership, scaling up opportunities across priority sectors including financial services, infrastructure, manufacturing, technology, energy, agribusiness, and professional services.
"Last year, China and Africa had a record trade volume of close to 350 billion US dollar and China has been Africa's largest trading partner for 16 consecutive years. So that highlights the bonding between China and Africa," he said.
